Even before the earthquake there were many organizations doing aid work in Haiti. Now, post-earthquake, more organizations have sprung up to take on the daunting task of rebuilding Haiti. The rebuilding process is not limited to the literal sense of the word, but is, for most organizations, an opportunity to make significant societal, financial, and democratic change from the ground up.
H.E.L.P. (Haitian Education & Leadership Program)
This is the group with which I am volunteering, and they're so great! Read my first blog post and visit their website to learn more. You can even donate to them if you want to help send a deserving student to university.
Partners In Health
They have been doing medical relief work in Haiti for over 25 years. They are truly incredible. Check them out! They are also one of the best organizations to donate to.
Doctors Without Borders/MSF
Always an excellent organization, providing health care to places struck by disaster and people in dire need (basically they go to all the places nobody wants to go). They also put their money where their mouth is.
Stand With Haiti
This is Partners In Health's website specifically about their earthquake relief. They update it relatively frequently and is an excellent resource.
Kanpe
Another relief group focusing on helping families reach financial independence and breaking the cycle of poverty. They are also highly involved in a more comprehensive reconstruction of Haiti. "Kanpe" is Haitian Creole for "stand."
Fonkoze
“Haiti’s Alternative Bank for the Organized Poor” They give micro-loans, often to women, supporting efforts to escape extreme poverty and build democracy.
